GlobeXplorer incorporated i-cubed’s high-quality imagery and topographic data as a key component of its Internet services. The new data includes i-cubed’s enhanced and regularly updated “eDOQQ USA” aerial imagery set, the “eTopo USA” collection of shaded topo data, and the “eSAT15 USA” seamless 15-meter satellite imagery. GlobeXplorer also announced that ESRI’s ArcWeb Services will now include GlobeXplorer’s Premium Aerial & Satellite Image Service, which includes data from AirPhotoUSA, DigitalGlobe, EarthSat, i-cubed, USGS, Cities Revealed, and many others partners from around the world.

ORBIMAGE Inc. celebrated the one-year anniversary of the launch of OrbView-3, its first high-resolution imaging satellite, in June.

Telemorphic, Inc. received the Frost and Sullivan 2004 Customer Value Enhancement Award in recognition of the outstanding contribution made by the company’s software product, MultiViewer. “The interpretative ability MultiViewer demonstrates is a milestone in pushing unique interpretive capabilities to newer users,” says Frost & Sullivan Senior Analyst Ron Stearns. “ArcGIS is used in the creation, management, integration, analysis, display, and dissemination of spatial data, and MultiViewer adds significant value to this core offering.”

GeoTango International Corp. was chosen by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to provide a realistic 3D video sequence as the lead-in for the CBC’s election night coverage in June. GeoTango used its GeoServNet Globe software and multiple resolution satellite and aerial imagery to create the highly realistic 3D video sequence of Ottawa.

Contracts

The United States Department of Agriculture’s National Agriculture Imagery Program selected Sanborn to provide aerial photography and imagery acquisition services covering parts of Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, and South Dakota between June and September 2004. VARGIS LLC also received a three-year contract from the program, as well as one from the Marin Telecommunications Agency to provide countywide digital mapping products and services for Marin County, California.

ORBIMAGE Inc., DigitalGlobe, and Space Imaging were awarded a multi-year, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract to supply the United States Geological Survey and its partner agencies with high-resolution commercial satellite imagery. The program has a total estimated worth of up to $15 million over three years.

Allegheny County, Pennsylvania awarded a $500,000 contract to DigitalGlobe to provide satellite and aerial imagery of the region for a major overhaul and upgrade of the county’s GIS.

Intergraph Mapping and Geospatial Solutions announced that Photo Science Inc. (Lexington, Kentucky) Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd. (Toyko, Japan) have purchased the company’s Z/I Imaging Digital Mapping Camera, a large-format digital aerial camera system.

DigitalGlobe signed an agreement with IONIC under its NextView contract with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency to purchase the entire IONIC RedSpider product line to implement an extensive OpenGIS-based architecture. The implementation at DigitalGlobe is aimed at supporting Quickbird operations, NextView requirements and the company’s  long-term business strategy.

Raytheon Australia announced an extension of its deal with SPOT Image (France) for the exclusive distribution rights for SPOT 2, 4, and 5 data over the Australian region. 

Knight Piésold Consulting of Vancouver, BC awarded Kodiak Mapping Inc., in partnership with Eagle Mapping Ltd., a LiDAR and digital mapping contract for the Pebble Project, Alaska.

Space Imaging has signed an exclusive agreement with the International Air Transport Association (IATA), of Montreal, Canada, to sell a new family of aviation geospatial products derived from Space Imaging’s IKONOS satellite, and the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) and Landsat satellites. The new products are aimed at increasing air transport safety and efficiency for airlines and airports.

Products

Earth Satellite Corporation (EarthSat) released NaturalVue 2000, a global 15-meter resolution natural color image dataset. NaturalVue 2000 is based entirely on Landsat 7 data acquired between 1999 and 2001.

Skyline Software Systems Inc. selected LizardTech’s compression and decompression technology to embed into its commercial software line, TerraSuite.

PCI Geomatics announced the release of GeoRaster ETL for Oracle - an Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) product that allows users to leverage Oracle’s enhanced support for raster data in Oracle 10g.

People

GeoVantage, Inc. appointed Michael Nappi as president and CEO, effective June 1st. Nappi brings more than 20 years of management experience in GIS.

Definiens Imaging has appointed Dr. Ursula Benz and Martin Ehrhardt to the positions of managing directors. Benz joined Definiens Imaging in 2000 from the German Aerospace Centre, initially responsible for SAR development, before setting up Definiens Imaging Professional Service Group. Ehrhardt joined in 2003 from Autodesk Germany where he was head of major account sales for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Most recently he was vice president sales and marketing at Definiens Imaging.

DigitalGlobe hired Ray Summerell as its new director of customer solutions. Summerell will address customer relationships, product evolution, partnerships and new business opportunities surrounding the company’s work with U.S. federal civilian agencies, lands, real estate, facilities and infrastructure, as well as state and local governments.

Guy Perkins, former Managing Director of ESRI Australia and most recently Manager, Commercial Solutions Group of MapInfo Australia, has joined Earth Resource Mapping (ERM) as Vice President, Asia Pacific.

DigitalGlobe’s founder and CTO, Dr. Walter Scott, received the 2004 Colorado Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the emerging technology category.
