RSI and Definiens Agree to Co-Develop eCognition Application
RADARSAT International (RSI) has joined with Definiens Imaging GmbH (DIG) of Munich, Germany, to develop RADARSAT-1 knowledge bases to be made available with future releases of the latter company's eCognition software suite. In 2002, DIG will market a version of eCognition that will contain advanced synthetic aperture radar (SAR) functionalities, allowing worldwide users to quickly extract information from RADARSAT-1 for a broad range of applications.
eCognition software provides object-oriented, multi-scale satellite image analysis capabilities, and classifies an image based upon attributes of the image objects rather than on the attributes of individual pixels. This process allows users to collect a large range of statistical parameters and detailed information from any Earth-observation data tailored specifically to their information needs.
DIG will supply eCognition software training and support to RSI. RSI will provide the data format of the upcoming RADARSAT-2 satellite, such that future versions of the eCognition software will be RADARSAT-2 compatible and will feature various advanced radar functions.
Definiens Imaging GmbH develops decentralized communication platforms as well as software for knowledge management and image analysis. RADARSAT International, a wholly owned subsidiary of MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates, is a worldwide provider of products and information solutions derived from Earth-observation (EO) satellite data.
