ESRI-Powered DC Atlas Delivers Spatial Data Throughout Capital City Offices ESRI's ArcIMS software is powering a new application at city government offices in Washington, D.C. The District of Columbia launched DC Atlas as an enterprise GIS for its employees in June 2002. The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) in Washington, D.C., worked with an ESRI business partner -- Michael Baker Jr. Inc. -- to develop the ArcIMS Intranet-based tool that brings together data from the city's 67 departments, delivering it directly to every staff member's desktop computer. An ArcSDE geo-database from ESRI allows city employees to access more than 150 map layers including demographic, socioeconomic, and spatial data. DC Atlas supports the city's departments with instant access to a wealth of information such as orthophotos and planimetric maps, plus maps of service areas, political and administrative boundaries, development areas, fire and police stations, hospitals, schools, and libraries. ESRI is a developer of GIS software that provides consulting, implementation and technical support services. ESRI can be found on the Web at www.esri.com.
